OUGD504 - Studio Brief 3 - ISTD

Brief

Produce a body of work in response to one of the given briefs that demonstrates your understanding of design for Print AND Web-Based delivery. You should use the bref as a starting point that you can extend/expand in order to evidence your ability to design for cross media delivery. You will need to identify a point of focus (Print or Web) and present  products in their approporiate format. Any remaining deliverabes can be presented as proposals with full artworks and supporting media

Mutton Quad - ISTD 2011

Design work for a restaurant with a typographic theme.

Origin of the word Mutton Quad is based on printing block type.
One "em" is the width of a capital "M" in the relevant point size of the type. Another term is "em-quads" which can be referred to as "mutton-quads".

The Brief

Post crit development boards

Initial development of a small van livery set incorporating the company colours, I will be getting quotes for this as I believe it is relevant to understand how much clients will have to spend / be billed for.

Delivery Vehicle Livery and beer bottle labels.
Stickers ready to be placed on the model transit Van.

There is smudging occurring on the stickers, I chose to print several copies out in case of mistakes.

Foiling tests

Due to slow loading time of the post I have continued the process page here.

OUGD504DP - Web Design Scamps & Crit

Issu presentation - My proposal Document for the Kirkstall Abbey Website Re Design.

I wanted to apply a level of professionalism with this brief from the start by producing a concept booklet with scamps and justification of colour systems and logo. I feel it helped communicate the overall idea of the brief.
This booklet presentation was my equivalent of the presentation boards, having the scamps printed at A2 or A3 size and mounted could be a method of pitching to clients along side them having a copy of the printed presentation.

OUGD504 - Print Production - Issuu Version 1

Attempting to emboss using laser cut acrylic letter forms and the wind down clamp.

The effect did not work out as planned, the stock itself is too thin and the plastic flexes too much in the press.

OUGD503 Responsive - Fedrigoni Competition

Although I hope to use a couple of the YCN briefs, I have chosen this brief to focus on the Fedrigoni brief for the Responsive Module

Why have I chosen it?
The company is related to the field of Graphic Design and Print.
The variety of mediums the brief can be answered with is limited but the design work can still be transferred across to other platforms such as mobile / web etc.
Opportunity to tell a heritage based story whilst selling a product.

What would I want to get out of it?
A chance to be exhibited and published
A piece of work for portfolio
The chance to work with paper and gain industry contacts.

What I want to do/make?
Something physical that can be transferrable
A box of paper that has a level of interaction
Something 3D

Why I want to enter it?
Working to a set brief by an established company
YCN gives a focal point to emerging talent.

What's the problem?

What is the brief asking me to do about it?

What is it trying to achieve?
Raise awareness of the budget line paper
To make more income for the company.

What are the 10 most important words on the brief?

What's the message?
Their history

Who is the audience?

What is the context?

What products are associated with it?

What do you have to do?

What do you need to do?

What can you do?

Laser cut
etch,
paper craft,
photography,
web,
publication,

What hasn't been done before?

What do you already know?

Fedrigoni make paper, good customer service, fast responses, respected.

What do you need to find out?

The names of the stock to be advertised,
translations of words into itallian,

What is stopping you?
Nothing other than the other briefs to think about.

How to judge the work
Innovative ideas
Professional execution

Code that is not needed is just deleted.

This line of code simply dictates that we will speak in Hyper Text Markup Language for this website.

Close the section of the code

Anything in the head of the website is not visible from the website, however we can put it in, such as another language, google search tags etc and the title of the page.

Meta Tags are a way of searching using key words.

The most simple website, the design of the wevsite is placed in between the two body codes.

always call the "home" page, index, this is universal and a standard of reading websites.

Changing the title alters the title in internet browsers.

In CSS anything relating to the body is within the "body {" command.
