First Crit and task response (10 reasons) - Yorkshire Puddings

Crit Questions

The following are questions that I asked of my peers to get the most out of ammending the products.

As I chose to go for a home/handmade feel, it was important to me to know if this aesthetic had been communicated without any images of the product in context. The type was always a tricky topic as this was admittedly rushed and not polished to a high enough standard, however it is commonplace now to have rough sketchy typography on a craft product. In my opinion, the use of any colour would not add anything to the labelling therefore I wanted to see if my peers agreed with me.

Discussion

It was important to me to understand several points that are common sense but can be overlooked, when approaching a crit / meeting / client discussion it is important to have the following, or at least take them into consideration.

Good clarity - Is the work clear and presentable
Effective type - Is it legible and appropriate
Questions and discussion - Can you talk about it
Relevant colour and imagery - does it make sense to the target audience
Originality of format and design - Is it a rip off of someone else's work?
Range - How does it work as a set or series.
Composition - Use grids, show them, explain them.

Task Response
10 Things that I find interesting and why:

Space.
There is so much land within the Yorkshire borders that has the potential of being explored and discovered. I found many small towns and villages which have significant history within the borders and suffer from a lack of tourism.

History with wealth.
There is a rich working class history within Yorkshire, however there is also a very rich elite life and history of cultural leaders within Yorkshire, evidence of both can be seen all over in the forms of statley and manor homes, and the preserved working mines and factories scattered accross the county. The art history which is stored within manor homes and national parks is on a huge scale.

Sport.
Leeds alone has a variety of sporting "legends" that has given popularity to their respective sports. I found that the YCC based in Headingley has had a long history of success with many international class players.

Mapping.
The area maps, street layouts and how they have changed over the last hundred years is interesting due to the reasons in which they were forced to change. Several buildings have listed status and therefore as the world develops, it must develop around existing buildings.

Business.
The fiscal history of cities within the county is vague, I would like to learn more about small businesses within the area.

Food.
Yorkshire is renowned outside of London for having several Michilin starred restaraunts which could lead to interesting projects. Food is something I am passionate about and could find several ways of developing effective design led solutions to any problems in the food industry.

Alcohol
With the wealth of bars and drinks companies within Yorkshire I feel that (with my interests in this industry and its links with graphic design already deepening) that I can produce work based on several facts and figures.

Photography
Due to the landscape and architecture within Yorkshire, photography can be incredible.

Architecture.
The architecture in Leeds especially is award winning, investigating the design and structures could prove interesting. I would like to learn more about the links between architectural design and graphic design.

People
There are numerous sports people, comedians, military (etc) persons have lived in or around Yorkshire, finding further biographies may prove to be productive.
