OUGD504 - Indesign - Error spotting

When making a PDF, the progress can be slow, we don't see anything happening unless we use the background tasks window. This also highlights any issues occurring when the document saves.

Error Spotting.

1. Missing Link
To fix a missing link, double click on the question mark to navigate and find the missing image.

2. RGB Image

The gamut warning on Photoshop can be used to check the RGB/CMYK of an image, then adjustments can be made.

3. Small Resolution Image

By using the information on the links palette the Actual PPI is 72, which is not a sufficient resolution. The image would have to be given from the client again. We cannot use Photoshop as it would become a low quality, high resolution image.

4. Unused spot colour swatches

Having an unused spot colour swatch means that unnecessary inks could be used and printed, this can increase the cost. Use the separations preview and remove them by deleting from the swatches palette.

5. Type over Ink Limit

The type at the base of the 4th page is the registration colour and not black, this is easily rectified by reapplying the correct colour.

6. Blue used RGB not CMYK
If a colour is not in CMYK mode, there is a risk of an off colour when printing. To fix this simply change the colour to CMYK, as this is a global swatch all areas of that colour will automatically change.

7. First page does not reach bleed

In order to fix a bleed issue, the background can simply be dragged to the edge of the page as it is a full colour spread managed in InDesign.

8. Bird scaled down a lot whilst in InDesign
This could lead to errors occuring. You could scale the image in InDesign as long as you go back to Photoshop and apply the changes.
